FAQ
If something’s not covered here, just drop us a message — we’re always happy to chat before you book.
Who goes on these trips?
LGBTQ+ travellers from different countries and backgrounds — typically between 28 and 55. Our trips are tailored specifically for the LGBTQ+ community and are open to all. The one thing everyone has in common is wanting a genuinely good experience — curious about where they’re going, up for an adventure, and open to meeting people.
Some trips have a specific age range noted on the trip page. We design those deliberately to keep the group dynamic feeling right.
How do you put the groups together?
Group cohesion is one of the things we think hardest about when confirming a departure. We look at age range, travel mindset, personality mix — the kind of things that make a group click rather than just coexist. We are not filling seats. We are building a group of people who are likely to genuinely enjoy each other’s company.
Similar life stage and similar travel energy matter a lot to us. Someone who wants to go deep into local culture every day and someone who wants to party every night are both valid — but they probably shouldn’t be on the same trip. We think about that before anyone boards a plane.
I’m travelling solo. Will that be weird?
The opposite — solo travellers make up most of our groups, and it works brilliantly. You arrive somewhere new and already have a ready-made community around you. There’s no awkward first evening wondering who to eat with. By day two, you’ll have forgotten you didn’t know anyone before the trip.
I’m coming as a couple. Is this still for us?
Absolutely. Plenty of couples join our trips because they want to share a destination with a wider group rather than just the two of them. You get the closeness of travelling together and the energy of meeting new people — it tends to make the trip richer for both of you.
Can a small group of friends join together?
Yes, and it works really well. A group of two or three friends who want the structure and social energy of a larger trip — without the effort of planning it themselves — is exactly the kind of booking we love. You’ll travel with your crew and expand it at the same time. 4 friends or more? Get in touch directly with us and we could arrange a private trip just for you and your friends.
Is this a party trip?
No. Our trips are social, but not party-focused. Think meaningful connection over nightlife chaos.
What’s the age range?
Most travellers are between 30 and 55, but the key factor is mindset, not age.
Will I have free time?
Yes — every trip balances planned experiences with time to explore or unwind on your own.
What if I’ve always wanted to visit a destination but didn’t want to go alone?
That’s one of the most common reasons people book with us — and one of the most valid. Some destinations feel daunting to navigate solo, or simply more rewarding when shared. Joining an Omnia Horizons group means you get the experience you’ve been putting off, with people you’ll actually enjoy it with, in an environment where you can be completely yourself.
How big are the groups?
On average, our groups are 10 to 12 people. The maximum is 15 — and that’s a firm limit, not a target. We keep groups small because it makes everything better: the experiences feel more personal, the connections run deeper, and the whole trip flows more naturally.
Will there be a good mix of social and cultural activities?
That’s the whole point. Every trip is built with real balance — not wall-to-wall sightseeing, and not a party with a museum visit thrown in. You’ll have curated cultural experiences, iconic sites, private access moments, and plenty of unscheduled time to explore, eat, drink, and do whatever you feel like. The mix is intentional, and it’s part of what makes the trip feel right from the first day.
What is a Lead Explorer?
Every Omnia Horizons journey includes a Lead Explorer — an LGBTQ+ traveller who joins the group from the very first contact right through to the last day of the trip. They are not a tour manager. They are one of the group: curious, social, and genuinely there for the experience.
Before departure, the Lead Explorer is your main point of contact. They reach out early to introduce themselves, start connecting people in the group, answer practical questions, and make sure everyone feels ready and excited before they travel. By the time you arrive at the first destination, you’ll already know who they are — and probably a few of your fellow travellers too.
Is the Lead Explorer a professional guide?
Not in the traditional sense. They are a traveller first — someone who shares your curiosity and your appetite for a good experience. The specialist local knowledge comes from our vetted local guides at each destination. The Lead Explorer is there for the group: its energy, its cohesion, and the connections between people.
What does the Lead Explorer actually do on the trip?
They travel with you — eating at the same table, coming out in the evening, getting excited about the same moments. They are the person who notices if someone is on the edges of the group and quietly brings them in, who knows when to suggest a spontaneous detour, and who keeps the social energy of the trip alive from day one.
In the background, they handle the practical side: keeping things on time, liaising with local guides and venues, making sure any issues get resolved before you notice them. But that’s never what defines them. What defines them is that they are a traveller, just like you — and they are genuinely invested in everyone having a brilliant time, because they are having one too.
How do I book?
Directly through our website. Choose your trip, pay a deposit to secure your place, and the balance is due 60–90 days before departure. If you have questions before committing, just get in touch — we’re happy to talk it through first.
How much is the deposit?
30% of the trip price. This confirms your spot and lets us lock in everything with our local partners.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. We offer a flexible payment plan between your deposit and the final balance date — no need to pay everything at once. The full details are shown when you book.
What’s the cancellation policy?
Full details are in our Booking Conditions. The short version: the closer to departure, the less we can refund. Travel insurance is included in your trip price to cover cancellation — see the What’s Included section for more detail.
What’s included in the trip price?
The exact inclusions vary by trip — always check the individual trip page for the full breakdown. As a general rule, every Omnia Horizons departure includes:
All accommodation — mid-range 3 to 4 star hotels, boutique where possible, carefully chosen for each destination
All core experiences — every activity, excursion, and curated moment listed in the itinerary
At least two group meals — a welcome dinner on the first evening and a farewell dinner on the last night. Additional group meals are included on specific trips — check the itinerary
Lead Explorer support — pre-trip contact, group introductions, and full accompaniment throughout the journey
Private local guides — where specified in the itinerary
All internal transfers and transport between destinations during the trip
Please note: airport transfers on arrival day and departure day are not included. We’ll share recommended transfer options with you before departure.
What’s not included?
International flights to and from the destination
Airport transfers on arrival and departure day
Travel Insurance (it is mandatory to have a travel insurance and travel insurance policy number should communicated to your trip’s Lead Explorer prior to the trip so they have it on hand in case of emergency)
Flight cancellation or interruption insurance — we recommend purchasing this separately at the time of booking your flights
Personal spending, drinks at leisure, and tips
Optional activities — these are offered as add-ons and priced separately
Meals not specified as included in the itinerary
What kind of hotels do you use?
Mid-range 3 to 4 star hotels, with a strong preference for boutique, character-filled properties that reflect the destination rather than anonymous international chains. Where possible, we choose places with a story – a design hotel in Mexico City’s Roma Norte, a guesthouse steps from the beach in Zipolite. Always comfortable, always chosen with care.
Full accommodation details are listed on each individual trip page.
Do I have to share a room?
No. If you would prefer a single room, that option is available with a single supplement — the cost varies by trip and destination. Please select your preference at the time of booking.
How do you handle safety for LGBTQ+ travellers?
Carefully and thoroughly. Every destination we include has been researched with LGBTQ+ safety and comfort in mind, and every partner, hotel, and guide we work with has been vetted. You should be able to travel openly and comfortably throughout. If we’re not confident of that, the destination simply doesn’t make it onto our programme.
What fitness level do I need?
Moderate. You’ll be on your feet for stretches of the day — walking neighbourhoods, visiting sites, the occasional hike. Nothing that requires special fitness, but you’ll want to be comfortable on your feet for a few hours at a time. Each individual trip page gives you the specific detail for that destination.
Do I need a visa?
This depends on your passport and your destination. We’ll share full entry requirements and practical travel information after booking, but it’s always worth checking visa requirements for your nationality before you confirm. If you’re unsure, just ask us.
Still have a question?
We’re happy to help. Every enquiry is read and answered personally — no automated responses. Drop us a message on the Contact page and we’ll come back to you within one working day.
